Exposure to common toxic substances could increase asthma symptoms

ScienceDaily (Aug. 31, 2012) ? Children who are exposed to polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), which were commonly used in a range of industrial products, could be at risk of an increase in asthma symptoms, according to new research.

The study will be presented in a poster discussion September 2, 2012 at the European Respiratory Society's Annual Congress in Vienna.

PCBs were regularly used between 1930s and 1970s in a range of electrical equipment, lubricants and paint additives. They were eventually phased out due to the harm they were causing to the environment and animals.

Although they are not widely used now, the toxic substance does not break down easily. It can be transported in water and air and it can exist in the environment, particularly at waste sites, for a number of years.

Researchers from the University of Queensland in Australia examined 240 children to assess the impact PCBs are having on asthma symptoms. They measured the levels of PCBs found in their blood, along with three pesticides, and also assessed prevalence of wheeze, a common symptom of asthma.

The results found that overall, those with higher levels of PCBs were more likely to report wheeze (odds ratio 1.61). The findings also suggest that the link between PCBs and wheeze was stronger in non-atopic (non-allergic) asthma.

Lead author, Professor Sly, from the University of Queensland, said: "Despite PCBs being banned from use in many countries, people are still suffering from the effects of these toxic substances. Our findings suggest that people with high levels of the chemicals in their blood stream are suffering from higher levels of wheeze, a common asthma symptom.

"This could be due to high concentration levels being passed from a mother to a baby while in the womb, or PCBs may be ingested if a person consumes contaminated food. They could also be inhaled from contaminated hazardous waste sites."

The Era of Destination Weddings | Weddings

Relationships | Weddings | * Written by Neal C. Bellamy | Tuesday, 28 August 2012 23:13 | Word Count: 573

So, the love of your life has popped you the big question with that dreamy Harry Winston engagement ring. And then, you gave your biggest ?Yes!? with all the love and excitement in your heart; in a few words, you?re getting married. And surely, your next step is to plan your dream wedding?your very own destination wedding.

So what then is a destination wedding? This revolutionary pair of words from the wedding industry means combining the wedding reception, honeymoon, wedding ceremony itself, and every wedding activity designed to bring the revelers, together in one perfect location that the wedding couple have always wanted. Simply put, destination wedding means taking your wedding outdoors and embracing the serene ambiance that nature has to offer. A destination wedding is usually held in an extremely vacation-worthy location like the beach or a garden outside your hometown, where guests can spend a really great time with the wedding couple and the rest of the guests. Usually, destination weddings happen on a long-weekend.

The destination wedding is designed to keep the number of guests on track, which means getting the real headcount of who?s going to attend your wedding and not having to deal with unwanted guests that might crash into your reception on your big day if your wedding was in your area. Furthermore, since most guests often travel miles in order to get into the wedding reception, wedding organizers innovated destination weddings to give your guests a worthy and lavishing vacation from their busy lives. It gives you and your relatives and in-laws a couple of days to reconnect and build good relationships that will last a lifetime, rather than just spending five to seven hours with them in the banquet room ?that?s hitting several birds in one stone. Plus, the pristine atmosphere of nature will give you and your guests an unforgettable wedding experience.

If you are asking for the benefits of having a destination wedding, here they are. For practicality reasons, it?s cheaper. The etiquette of the destination wedding says that your guests are the ones who should pay for their own airfares. If you?re living in New York, a day?s wedding for a 100-150 guests would cost you bucks that?s really gonna hurt your pocket, whereas a four-day wedding in Jamaica with your closest friends and relatives is way much cheaper.Practicality doesn?t always translate to sacrificing the quality of experience that you deserve to have on your big day, destination weddings have a wide range of choices of destinations that suit your budget and your classy taste. Moreover, a destination wedding allows you to focus on relaxing instead of cramming. With it, you have every second of the clock to taste the sweetness of your wedding weekend because you?ve got no flights to catch up on the following day and no reasons to rush things up since your honeymoon is also on the same location.

Destination weddings are perfect for families that are scattered across the globe. Since majority of your guests have to travel to your hometown to witness your wedding day, you might as well put their traveling into use, make your wedding day a vacation getaway for you and your family. Who knows, they might consider your wedding the most romantic among their experiences just because you opted for a destination wedding.

Plan a Vermont wedding at Riverside Farm. Experience breathtaking scenery, quaint towns with cozy inns in your special event.

Michigan can polish B10 image with upset of 'Bama

Michigan and Michigan State are giving the Big Ten a couple of early chances to burnish its national reputation.

The conference's image has taken a beating in some quarters, and not just because of the child-sex scandal at Penn State or the NCAA penalties at Ohio State.

There is the perceived gap between the Big Ten and Southeastern Conference, a gap many think is growing wider each season. That, of course, is not a problem exclusive to the Big Ten. But the tension is palpable in a conference that once upon a time boasted of being the best in the land.

The SEC wears that label now, and its six straight national titles leave little room for debate. The Big Ten's recent performances against SEC teams have been less than stellar, and the record against other BCS leagues has been nothing to brag about, either.

All this makes for a delicious opener when No. 8 Michigan plays second-ranked and defending national champion Alabama on Saturday night at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Michigan coach Brady Hoke on Tuesday tried to juke a question about the importance of representing well in the early Big Ten-SEC matchup.

He mentioned the great academic institutions and athletic programs of the Big Ten before acknowledging any duty to fly the flag for the conference.

"There is no question that's part of it when you play a team from another league," he said on the Big Ten coaches' teleconference.

No. 13 Michigan State, picked by many to win the Legends Division and play Wisconsin again in the Big Ten championship game, can do its part Friday when it opens against 24th-ranked Boise State.

Spartans coach Mark Dantonio said he is concerned only about Michigan State, not how the Big Ten stacks up nationally. That argument can wait until later in the fall.

"Collectively, we as a group will stand together at the end of the day," he said. "We're not going out there representing the Big Ten Conference as much as putting on the green and white and representing Michigan State today."

The Big Ten was 4-6 in bowl games last year after its teams went a combined 7-7 in the regular season against BCS conference opponents and Notre Dame.

Last year's notable games: Penn State lost for a second straight year to Alabama, Iowa was beaten by Iowa State and Michigan State and Purdue both were beaten by Notre Dame. Since 1999, the Big Ten is 1-8 in the Rose Bowl and its 4-3 bowl mark in 2009 is its only postseason record above .500 in that time frame.

Ohio State won the Big Ten's last national championship, in 2002. The Buckeyes played for the title again in 2006 and '07 but were derailed by the SEC's Florida and LSU.

Wisconsin coach Bret Bielema said he's come to realize the importance of building up the image of the Big Ten in high-profile non-conference games.

"If we all win, it makes us all better," he said.

Hoke said he is comfortable having his team play Alabama in the opener. The Wolverines play three of their first five games away from Ann Arbor, including Notre Dame and improving Purdue in back-to-back weeks. They also play at Nebraska and Ohio State.

"We like it, and I like it personally," Hoke said. "When you want to be the best and you want to be champions and all those things you need to play the best and play those programs that are on a high level. We think as a team, that's just going to make us better when we get into the Big Ten."

Dantonio's Spartans will open against a Boise State team that returns only six starters from a squad that had six players taken in the NFL draft.

Boise State has beaten ranked opponents each of the last three years in openers: 19-8 over No. 14 Oregon in 2009, 33-30 over No. 7 Virginia Tech in Landover, Md., in 2010 and 35-21 over No. 19 Georgia in Atlanta last year.

The Broncos have won six straight and eight of nine against teams from BCS conferences.

Minnesota is the first Big Ten team to play, visiting UNLV on Thursday.

Other Big Ten openers, all Saturday: Northwestern at Syracuse; Southern Mississippi at Nebraska; Iowa vs. Northern Illinois, in Chicago; Western Michigan at Illinois; Indiana State at Indiana; Miami (Ohio) at Ohio State; Ohio at Penn State; Eastern Kentucky at Purdue; and Northern Iowa at Wisconsin.

Smoky Pulled Pork Tacos with Cherry-Peach Salsa (Crock Pot ...

While Ben and I have the same views on important matters like family, religion, money management, and hugging, we have to laugh at how opposite we are regarding other parts of our lives.

He loves to skateboard, while I prefer to play tennis.

I?m a coffee drinking early bird, and he?s a hip hop listening night owl.

He hates heights, while I want to jump out of airplanes.

Fly/drive. Summer/winter. Cake/pie. I could go on for days, people!

Fortunately, opposites do, in fact, attract, and while I don?t think we quite knew what to do about these differences in the beginning of our relationship, hysterical laughter is the new norm when proclaiming in coincidental unison our opposite love or hate for a person/place/thing while watching tv, or out-and-about, which happens at least once a day. What else can you do but giggle and agree to disagree?

Luckily I also totally married up and have a husband who will chase after my misdirected tennis balls ?til blinded by sweat, lay with me when I fall asleep at 8pm, fly next to me over oceans, hold my hand in the sweltering heat when I need to hear the cicadas at night, and stuff cake in his face just to make me laugh.

The whole jumping out of an airline bit though? Non negotiable. I can?t get through to the man! ;)

Opposites also tastefully attract in food, which is easily proven by Smoky Pulled Pork Tacos with Cherry-Peach Salsa.

SmokyPulledPorkTacoswithCherryPeachSalsa

Smoky chipotle pepper-laced pulled pork combines with sweet cherry-peach salsa in a juicy taco that Ben and I both agreed is absolutely mouthwatering. And I quote, ?This is the best thing you?ve made in a long time.? followed by, ?Omg I can?t wait to shove this in my mouth.? regarding his second taco, and ?I?ve never had juicier pork in my life.? Cough,?TWSS, x2. BAHAHAOMG, I can?t even!

DSC_0359

These tacos were made even better due to the fact that they were cooked in the crock pot. All I had to do was throw everything in the crocker at night, set it on the base in the morning, then turn it on. The fresh, summery Cherry-Peach Salsa can also be made a couple days ahead of time, which means dinner can be on the table in the time it takes you to shred the pork. Love that!

DSC_0364

Start the pulled pork tacos by assembling and prepping the ingredients for the pulled pork.

DSC_0308

First slice 1 large onion into quarters, then separate the layers into the bottom of the crock pot. I used a 5 quart crock pot, btw, which fits this recipe beautifully.

DSC_0309

Next, address zee butt. A 4-5lb pork butt! Pork butt is actually pork shoulder ? a fact I recently learned after an incredibly confusing conversation between me and my aforementioned husband regarding a requested shoulder rub in which he kept saying, yeah I?ll rub your butt! Right. Moving on!

DSC_0311

FIRST cut the pork into 5 or 6 big hunks, then liberally season each piece with salt & pepper. Per the pictures below, I forgot to cut the pork and put it in whole before removing and cutting up. Leaving it whole would have cost me hours in additional cooking time!

DSC_0314

Next add a few ingredients that will make the pulled pork taste wonderfully smokey, with a hint of sweet: 4 chipotle peppers in adobo sauce, 2 Tablespoons adobo sauce, 1/2 cup BBQ sauce, 2 Tablespoons brown sugar (un-pictured) and 20oz Dr. Pepper.

Chipotle peppers are smoked jalapeno peppers and are more?smoky?than spicy, in my opinion. You can get cans of them packed in adobo sauce right in the international foods aisle. I generally only use 1 or 2 per recipe, then stash the leftovers in my freezer.

DSC_0316

Pop the top onto the crock pot then either stash it in the fridge overnight and place it on the base in the morning, or put it onto the base now and cook on low for 8 hours.

DSC_0317

Now, as I mentioned, not only can the pulled pork be prepped in advance, but the sweet Cherry-Peach Salsa that goes on top can be made up to 2 days ahead of time too!

DSC_0335

To 1 cup each fresh chopped cherries & peaches, add 1/4 cup chopped cilantro, 1 minced jalapeno, the juice of 1 lime, and a dash of salt.

PeachSalsaIngredients

Mix everything together, then try to save some for the tacos. This is one of my favorite fruit salsas to date, and is seriously delicious on it?s own.

DSC_0350

When the pork is cooked through, and fall apart-tender, shred it all up, place it into a bowl, then strain the juices from the crock pot through 2 layers of cheesecloth, and enough of it back in to cover.

DSC_0353

Spoon the juicy pork onto a few fajita-sized flour tortillas, top with the cold cherry-peach salsa, then devour!

Smoky Pulled Pork Tacos with Cherry-Peach Salsa

Print this recipe!

Serves 6-8

Pulled Pork Tacos slightly adapted from The Pioneer Woman

Ingredients:

For the pork:

4-5lb pork butt (may be called pork shoulder)

salt & pepper

1 large sweet onion

4 chipotle peppers in adobo sauce + 2 Tablespoons sauce

1/2 cup BBQ sauce

2 Tablespoons brown sugar

20oz Dr. Pepper

Fajita-sized flour quesadillas

For the Cherry-Peach Salsa:

1 cup chopped sweet cherries

1 cup chopped peaches (about 1 large peach)

1/4 cup chopped cilantro

1 jalapeno, minced

salt

juice of 1 lime

Directions:

1. Cut onion into quarters then separate layers into the bottom of a 5 quart (minimum size) crock pot. Trim pork butt of excess fat then cut into 4-6 large pieces and season well with salt & pepper. Lay seasoned pork on top of onions then add chipotle peppers, adobo sauce, BBQ sauce, brown sugar, and Dr. Pepper. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours or until pork is tender enough to easily shred with a fork.

2. Remove pork pieces from the crock pot and shred, then place into a bowl and set aside. Strain juices through a double layer of cheesecloth and add back to shredded pork. Serve with Cherry-Peach Salsa in flour tortillas.

3. For the Cherry-Peach Salsa: Combine all ingredients in a bowl and mix well. Make up to two days in advance.

DSC_0376

I was afraid the pork would be too sweet with the addition of BBQ sauce, Dr. Pepper and brown sugar, but it was perfect. Definitely not too sweet, because, wouldn?t you know it ? while I love sweet & savory dinners, Ben?s all savory, all the time. Sweets are for dessert! Which he also doesn?t like. Come on! ;)

DSC_0379

I also originally wanted to make just a cherry salsa to top the tacos with, as a wink and a nod to Cherry Dr. Pepper, but I?m so glad I threw chopped peaches in there too. Their scent and flavor is just outrageous right now, and guess what? Even though Ben?s a savory guy, he LOVED the fruity salsa. That?s a major win, people!

DSC_0368

Knock the chipotle peppers and adobo sauce down a bit if you are sensitive to heat but as is, the heat level is only about a 5/10, and the cherry-peach salsa helped tone it down too!

DSC_0385

~~~~~
Do you and your mate have opposite interests, or are you pretty similar? What do you like to do together?
While we definitely have a lot of opposite interests, Ben and I like driving in the country, planning for our future, cooking, and going out to eat together!
Insert Coin: Public Lab DIY Spectrometer wants to be the 'Shazam of materials'
In Insert Coin, we look at an exciting new tech project that requires funding before it can hit production. If you'd like to pitch a project, please send us a tip with "Insert Coin" as the subject line.
Insert Coin Public Lab DIY Spectrometer wants to be the 'Shazam of materials'
Spectrometers are a pretty invaluable piece of lab equipment. They make it rather simple to identify substances by analyzing the light that they absorb. Problem is, for the hobby scientist, they typically cost thousands of dollars. Jeffrey Yoo Warren's latest Kickstarter project aims to put these powerful tools in the hands of your average Joe, with an open-source DYI model, where the key ingredient is a shard of DVD-R. Using that piece of plastic in conjunction with black paper and a webcam, his $35 kit allows anyone to quickly and easily reveal the spectral fingerprint of any substance. There's even a $5 model that works in conjunction with a free Android app, turning your smartphone into a legit lab tool. The goal, ultimately, is to build up a library of substances that can easily be matched with samples caught in the wild -- in essence, to build a "Shazam for materials." The original inspiration was an effort to identify contaminants left behind by the BP oil spill, but Warren also touts its ability to reveal hidden dyes in laundry detergents and to differentiate wines or olive oils. For those with grander ambitions, a $300 pledge will score you a pre-built and calibrated desktop spectrometer, complete with pyrex dishes and a full spectrum lamp. To help fund this backyard (or back pocket) science revolution, hit up the source link.
Hurricane Isaac made two landfalls in southeastern Louisiana. Isaac's first landfall occurred in southeastern Louisiana on Aug. 28 at 7:45 p.m. EDT (1145 UTC), second landfall on Aug. 29 at 6 a.m. EDT (1000 UTC). NASA's TRMM satellite observed heavy rainfall in this slow moving storm, which leads to higher rainfall totals and flooding.
NASA and NOAA satellites continue to provide detailed information to forecasters at the National Hurricane Center. Hurricane Isaac's first landfall occurred at 7:45 p.m. EDT in extreme southeastern Louisiana, bringing strong winds and dangerous storm surge along the northern Gulf coast. Landfall occurred in Plaquemines Parish, southwest of the mouth of the Mississippi River. Isaac was a category 1 storm upon landfall with maximum sustained winds of 80 mph (130 kmh).
NASA's Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) satellite captured a view of Isaac's rainfall rates on Aug. 28 at 11:05 p.m. EDT, just 3 hours and 20 minutes after its first landfall in southeastern Louisiana. The heaviest rainfall rates, near 50 mm (2.0 inches) per hour surrounded the center of the storm, causing inland flooding on its slow crawl.
At 6 a.m. EDT on Aug. 29, Isaac made a second landfall along the southern coast of Louisiana. At that time it was located near latitude 29.3 north and longitude 90.6 west, 35 miles south-southeast of Houma Louisiana, and moving west-northwest at 6 mph (9 kmh).
By 7 a.m. EDT, Isaac's maximum sustained winds were still hurricane strength, at 80 mph (130 kmh) as it continues to feed from the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico. It was located about 20 miles (30 km) southeast of Houma, La. Near 29.4 north and 90.5 west. Isaac was moving to the northwest at 6 mph (9 kmh) with a minimum central pressure of 970 millibars.
A hurricane warning is in effect for east Of Morgan City, Louisiana to the Mississippi-Alabama border, including metropolitan New Orleans, Lake Pontchartrain and Lake Maurepas. A hurricane watch is in effect for Intracoastal city to Morgan City, Louisiana. A tropical storm warning is in effect for the Mississippi-Alabama Border to Destin, Florida, and from Morgan City to Sabine Pass, Texas. A tropical storm watch is in effect from east of High Island Texas to just west of Sabine Pass.
Flooding is a big threat from Isaac because of its slow movement, and because it is drawing a lot of energy from the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Isolated tornadoes are also possible as Isaac continues moving inland.
Afghan beheadings could signal confusion in Taliban ranks
LASHKAR GAR/KABUL (Reuters) - It was meant to be another night of music and dance, a brief distraction from life in the searing heat and dust of Afghanistan's conservative rural south for a small group of boys and girls in Helmand province's Roshan Abad village.
Instead it ended in brutality that even the Taliban's austere leadership are unwilling to be linked with amid off-again, on-again peace moves and signs that grassroots insurgent fighters may not be in a mood for any compromise.
All seventeen revelers - 15 boys and two girls - were shot or beheaded by their own villagers and insurgents enraged by their "immorality".
"Inside the room there was only a smashed electric keyboard powered by a car battery, as well as a broken tabla (drum) and blood stains around the room," said district elder Juma Gul, who later visited the mud-walled compound where the slaughter unfolded.
The central Taliban leadership is trying to improve the group's image in case it wants to push forward tentative reconciliation steps and perhaps even enter mainstream politics. But some militant units are hard to control, roaming the countryside and slaughtering those deemed immoral.
In the West, the Taliban are seen as one tight movement with uniform policies. But nothing could be further from the truth in many parts of the country as NATO prepares to withdraw most of its combat troops by the end of 2014.
The warning signs of a massacre in Roshan Abad, which raises fresh questions about leaders' grip on scattered fighters, had been there for days but went unheeded, perhaps in the confidence only youths seem to have in their invulnerability.
Insurgents, who largely control the area where U.S. Marines have suffered heavy losses, had posted letters of warning - known as "night letters" because they are left under the cover of darkness - on the door of the village mosque only days before.
Gul, in a story backed by other village witnesses, said the boys and girls had met days previously at a well, where women regularly fetch water, built decades ago by U.S. aid workers to water the arid land.
But in an area known for its deep conservatism on relations between men and women, it was still unclear why the girls agreed to meet for three consecutive nights before their slaughter.
Enraged family members of the two girls were among the attackers, villager Mohammad Gul told Reuters, backed by about five Taliban members from a nearby insurgent stronghold called Baghnai.
"The boys in the house were armed and fought back, but the Taliban called in more fighters who arrived on motorbikes," said Gul, who is not related to the other villager by the same name.
It is this that perhaps explains early reports of a clash between Taliban factions.
Mohammad Gul said some of the revelers were shot in the chest, while survivors of the brief gunbattle were beheaded, including the two women, with the bodies dumped beside an irrigation canal.
GENTLER FACE
Taliban spokesman Qari Yousuf denied the group was involved in a massacre that has provoked another bout of outrage at a time when the insurgency is keen to project a more moderate face.
"The boys must have been drunk, fighting one another. We were not involved," Yousuf said on Monday.
Reclusive Afghan Taliban leader Mullah Mohammad Omar, in an earlier message ahead of the Eid al-Fitr festival ending Ramadan fasting this month, urged fighters to "emphatically" avoid civilian deaths as a "religious obligation to observe".
The message was in part aimed at presenting a gentler face as efforts continue to re-open peace talks which could foster a power-sharing deal, with Mullah Omar calling for an "all-Afghan" process that appeared to move away from earlier opposition to dealing with the Afghan government.
"Judging from his words, the main strategic goal seems to remain the re-establishment of the Islamic Emirate, maybe in a somewhat more ?pluralistic' way," said Afghanistan Analysts Network author Thomas Ruttig in a blog this week, referring to the Taliban regime that held power until 2001.
Ruttig said two recent cases elsewhere in Afghanistan showed the Taliban were "trying to show their ?real' position on justice and that they do care about the civilian population", by punishing rogue insurgents and criminals.
But events like the July execution of a woman in central Afghanistan accused of adultery and now the gruesome killings in Helmand threaten to undo any small advances in the face of a deeply suspicious, if not hostile, public outside the insurgents' southern and eastern stronghold.
Such incidents highlight the difficulty that Taliban leaders have in enforcing discipline across an estimated 20,000 fighters spread from Afghanistan to Pakistan, through hundreds of villages separated by both mountainous geography, poor phone networks and even worse roads.
That is true also of Roshan Abad, where about 400 families live between Kajaki and Musa Qala districts in an area rarely patrolled by Afghan or foreign troops.
If the Taliban cannot enforce demands to spare the lives of civilians, then the task of enforcing any peace pact that might emerge after most Western combat troops withdraw looks even more remote.
"The Taliban are a loose movement, operating in small numbers and small groups, so it's difficult to say whether they receive or get messages from those higher-up or their Mullah Omar," said a senior Afghan intelligence official who declined to be identified.
"Even when Mullah Omar tells them or orders them not to harm civilians, local commanders prefer punishment and value their Islamic duties rather than listen to him in matters of immorality."
BLOOMBERG: Ronald Reagan A 'Socialist!' - Business Insider
Taking a page out of?Newsweek's playbook,?Bloomberg Insider?went with a bold cover for Tuesday's edition of its daily magazine that it's distributing throughout the conventions:
The argument of the accompanying story, which will undoubtedly be a topic of conversation Tuesday at the Republican National Convention, is not that Reagan is actually a socialist. That term is used in a hyperbolic fashion, in a nod to the regular charges from Republicans that President Obama is a "socialist."
The argument of Michael Tackett's piece?is?that under today's Republican Party, Reagan would be considered too moderate for a party that has shifted further to the right.
From the story:
Ronald Reagan remains the modern Republican Party?s most durable hero. His memory will be hailed as The Great Uncompromiser by those who insist the GOP must never flag in its support for smaller government, lower taxes and conservative social values.
His record tells a different story.
During Reagan?s eight years in the White House, the federal payroll grew by more than 300,000 workers. Although he was a net tax cutter who slashed individual income-tax rates, Reagan raised taxes about a dozen times.
Google Online Voter Registration Could Decrease Turnout
dont_vote_design_black1It's now easier than ever to register to vote over the web: Google is the latest tech powerhouse to support online registration with TurboVote, a slick step-by-step portal that conveniently mails US citizens a mostly-filled out registration card, along with a pre-printed envelope. However, experimental research into the impact of such online registration systems [PDF] finds that they actually decrease registration. Apparently, the ease of the online process lulls citizens into complacency and they forget to follow through with the rest of the process. The unfortunate drawback can be offset with SMS reminders, which TurboVote encourages. So, depending on the number of people confortable giving Google their digits, this well-intentioned experiment could backfire.
