Canton takes blame for Olympia loss | Football

By CHRIS CHANCELLOR
Port Orchard Independent Staff Writer
September 29, 2012 ? Updated 12:41 AM?

There was no fear of going into overtime. And no plan to trick anyone.

Olympia coach Bill Beattie said the successful two-point conversion that ultimately was the difference for his team during Friday night?s 15-14 win at South Kitsap in Class 4A Narrows League play was all about his kicker?s concussion.

?That wasn?t me rolling the dice,? Beattie said.

The play continued the Bears? mastery over the Wolves (3-2 overall, 1-2 league) since the teams began playing on an annual basis in 2007. Olympia (2-3, 2-0) has won five of those six meetings, including all three at Joe Knowles Stadium.

That occurred in spite of South never trailing until midway through the final quarter. After a 1-yard run by Michael Fettig, Beattie called reinserted senior Michael Naipo, who started the game at quarterback despite being listed at wide receiver. Naipo runs the wildcat at that position, but added a tweak ? the play-action fake. He found senior tight end Tanner Hartsoch open over the middle for a 39-yard touchdown.

It was a play Beattie waited for the fourth quarter to call.

?We?ve kind of been working on that, holding onto it,? he said. ?We thought, ?It?s now or never.? We knew at some point, we were going to throw that pass.?

Beattie said he normally would have relied on injured junior kicker Randy Jones, but he felt more comfortable going for two than trying his backup. Sophomore quarterback Kaden Wilson returned and connected with Hartsoch to give the Bears their first lead with 7:07 remaining.

That left the mistake-prone Wolves ? they committed 10 penalties ? two more opportunities. Their first drive after Olympia?s score resulted in a three-and-out.

But South forced the Bears to punt on their ensuing possession and took over at Olympia?s 49-yard line with 3:29 left. Buoyed by a facemask penalty and a 17-yard pass from senior quarterback Kevin Whatley to classmate Bryce Broome, the Wolves had a first-and-10 at the Bears? 19. But three plays later, South coach Eric Canton called for a trick play ? a halfback pass by senior Adam Gascoyne ? on second-and-15. Naipo intercepted it to secure the Bears? victory.

?That?s my fault,? Canton said. ?Got out-coached by a million miles. That?s what you can put down. I?m not throwing these kids under the bus.

?Obviously, we?re not prepared. We were flat all week at practice.?

Canton said he was not sure if that was the result of last week?s 31-12 loss at Bellarmine Prep.

?It?s my job to get them ready,? he said. ?Clearly, we?re not.?

Sophomore running back Marshaud DeWalt, who helped South capitalize on a third-quarter interception by Broome when he scored on a 1-yard run, said he thought his teammates struggled to overcome their previous setback.

?I think last week might have hung over,? he said. ?We should?ve bounced back. We have to make sure we?re focused at all times.?

With the possible exception of the Wolves second drive ? where senior running back Li?I Kalima culminated a 14-play series with a 5-yard touchdown run ? that never occurred. Even that possession included a pair of penalties.

Hartsoch?s touchdown was the only offensive score for Olympia. Their second-quarter touchdown occurred after South took over at its own 6 where Whatley was hit and fumbled, which was recovered by Jones in the end zone. The teams went into halftime tied at 7.

But the intermission did little to help the Wolves, who committed three turnovers during the game, and now find themselves outside of the league?s playoff picture for the first time since 4A Narrows play began. South, which plays at 7 p.m. Friday at Yelm (3-2, 1-1), fell to fifth place with the loss. The league receives four playoff berths.

?There shouldn?t be any problem getting ready to go,? said Canton, when asked how his players can respond to consecutive losses. ?If they?re competitors, they?ll get ready to go on their own, because I obviously can?t get it done.?

Jury: Death for arsonist convicted of 5 murders

(AP) ? A jury on Friday recommended death for an arsonist convicted of murdering five men who died of heart attacks during a wildfire that ripped through Southern California nearly a decade ago.

The murder charges against Rickie Lee Fowler, 31, signaled a tough standard for arson cases in a region plagued by wildfires that sometimes claim the lives of firefighters and civilians.

The Old Fire scorched 91,000 acres and destroyed 1,000 buildings while burning for nine days. The men died after their homes burned or as they tried to evacuate.

Superior Court Judge Michael A. Smith ordered Fowler to return to court Nov. 16 for sentencing. The judge can either accept the jury's recommendation or sentence Fowler to life in prison without possibility of parole.

Fowler, who wore a pinstriped shirt, spoke briefly with his attorney after the recommendation was read. He was handcuffed and led down a hall by bailiffs.

San Bernardino County District Attorney Michael A. Ramos welcomed the verdict after the fire devastated neighborhoods, destroying people's lives and cherished personal property such as photos, albums and letters that can never be replaced.

"Hopefully this does bring some justice to the victims," Ramos said.

Jurors declined to speak with reporters outside the courtroom.

Defense attorney Michael Belter said he spoke with members of the jury after the hearing and was told they had gone back and forth on whether to recommend death or a life sentence.

"We still take the position that if one is not involved with the intentional killing of somebody, the death penalty would not be warranted," Belter said, adding that he plans to file a motion for a new trial.

Fowler was convicted in August of arson and five counts of first-degree murder for setting the massive wind-blown blaze that ravaged the hills east of Los Angeles in 2003.

Laurie Levenson, a professor at Loyola Law School and former federal prosecutor, said that in charging Fowler with murder for setting the fire, prosecutors applied the same reasoning as they do when charging bank robbers for murder after tellers die of heart attacks. However, she acknowledged that people might not see a link between setting a wildfire and suffering a heart attack.

"Usually in arson, people die of smoke inhalation, or being ? God forbid ? burned to death. This is not the ordinary way people die in these situations," she said.

Levenson said the prosecution ran little risk in trying to get the death penalty for Fowler because doing so enabled them to cull a more conservative jury pool.

Robert Bulloch, supervising deputy district attorney, said he doesn't believe the manner of death made a difference in this case.

"Whether they were shot in a liquor store, in the course of a robbery or they were run over while somebody was trying to get away, the fact of the matter is that these lives were directly lost as a result of Rickie Fowler's actions," said Bulloch, who prosecuted the case.

Fowler became a suspect in the wildfire after witnesses reported seeing a passenger in a white van tossing burning objects into dry brush in the foothills above San Bernardino. Acting on a phone tip, investigators interviewed Fowler several months after the fire but didn't have enough evidence to file charges until six years later.

Fowler was serving time for burglary when he was charged with starting the blaze ? one of many fires that raged simultaneously throughout Southern California. While in prison awaiting trial, he was convicted of sodomizing an inmate and sentenced to three terms of 25 years to life.

Prosecutors argued at trial that Fowler lit the fire out of rage after he was thrown out of a house where his family was staying. They painted a picture of Fowler as a sadistic felon who raped, robbed and tortured people throughout his life.

Defense attorneys said Fowler never acknowledged starting the fire and suffered a horrific childhood with methamphetamine-addicted parents and a neighbor who molested him.

Prosecutors said Fowler gave authorities a note in 2008 acknowledging he was there when the fire began. The following year, he told reporters he had been badgered into making a confession.

Ways To Make Camping Fun For Everyone | Content for Reprint

Camping is a great activity and can be done with those around you that you love. Yet, many never try it because it sounds so hard to do. As long as you have the information you need ahead of time, camping is very easy. Continue reading this article for some excellent camping tips that will make you an seasoned camper quickly.

Remember that everything you bring will get dirty on your trip. Being prepared for the inevitable is the best way to avoid unneeded stress. Have fun in nature and don't be afraid to get dirty! You can get back to normal after returning home.

Make sure you know how to use a compass and map before you go camping. You can get lost in the woods even if you have been to the area before. You will be able to avoid possible tragedy when you learn how to use both of these life saving items.

After your trip, be certain you leave the campsite cleaner than it was when you found it. You will want to bring trash bags for cleaning up all refuse. Do not leave food there, either. A golden rule for departing a campsite: leave only your footprints behind.

Safety procedures should be acknowledged when you're out camping. Keep away from animals, both large and small. Even small animals in the wild can be dangerous. This should not have to be said, but never feed any bears you see.

Never assume that you will find enough wood to burn, because rain can change that in an instant. Bringing your own small supply of wood and keeping it dry is a wise decision.

Learn how to use a map or a compass before going camping. Even if you know what your campsite is like, you may still get lost because a lot of areas look similar around where you are. You can prevent disaster by knowing how to use these lifesaving items.

Never assume that you will find enough wood to burn, because rain can change that in an instant. It's important that you bring extra wood with you that you can keep in a dry area.

If you have any type of medical issue, no matter how minor, you should always discuss camping with a medical professional beforehand. He or she can tell you about important things you may not have thought about for your trip that can affect your health in a harmful way. Maybe only one small thing needs to be done that won't interfere but will make your camping trip less dangerous for you.

Have you just bought your first tent and want to begin camping? It's vital to learn all that you can before you leave about your tent. You should know what you need and how to do it before you actually have to do it. This will also help you be able to accomplish the task quickly and efficiently once you arrive at your campsite, even if it is near dark.

Find the softest, flattest ground possible to set up your tent. If you pick out a sloped or a rocky spot it can make sleeping and hanging out in the tent very uncomfortable. Also, put a tarp down on your site to repel water in the best fashion.

Buy yourself some camping pillows for your trip. The typical pillows will become sticky in hot and humid climates. The will also pull moisture from the air and mildew will form quickly. Pillows specifically designed for camping will not draw in wetness like regular pillows will.

For a cheap and disposable tarp to place under your tent, save an old shower curtain! You can also use it as a way to control run-off as you are washing or cooking. Instead of getting rid of an old shower curtain, use it for your next camping trip.

Improper food packing leads to food poisoning in many campers each year. Food poisoning can happen when food is spoiled, which is something you risk when you take food not properly preserved, vacuum sealed or canned. Make sure you keep all perishable food on ice, but keep the drain open!

Now that you've reached the end of this article, you are ready to do some planning. Camping is not intended to be an intense event, but there is a bit of know-how required to make it stress free. Use the information shared here and have a great trip!

home Inspection vs. Appraisal | A-Pro Home Inspection Olympia

posted by admin @ 1:30 PM

Friday, September 28, 2012

Sometimes buyers ignore the need for a home inspection because they don?t understand the purpose. Inspectors are confused with appraisers. The latter confirms the home?s market value to the lender but it offers consumers no protection in terms of the overall condition of the home.

Buyers shouldn?t let anyone convince them that they don?t need an inspection. Even people moving into new construction or foreclosure home should consider hiring a professional home inspector.

If an inspector identifies problems in either a new or an existing home, the seller could adjust the price or terms in the contract to the buyer?s benefit.

It doesn?t pay to try to save a couple bucks by having a friend with building experience walk through the home. Experienced inspectors know what to look for and how to classify the problems he or she sees. In some states, only licensed professionals can conduct inspections.

How tax changes affect your retirement planning | Cover Publications

John Kinsley

In an article published in a financial magazine shortly after the delivery of the annual budget speech, a respected local economist made the comment ?? essentially, this was not a good budget for the saver?.?

But is this really the case?

Not necessarily. In fact, long-term savings via a government-approved retirement vehicle have become even more attractive than before. Investors should be informed of the long-term impact of tax changes on different investment vehicles to ensure they have adequate savings.??

The most important tax changes for future retirees relate to capital gains and dividends

The two tax changes that are particularly relevant are:

1. An increase in Capital Gains Tax for the individual from 10% to 13,3%.

2. The introduction of a Dividend Withholding Tax of 15% on all dividends paid to South African individuals.

Investing in a government-approved retirement fund versus a balanced unit trust has different pros and cons

To see really how these changes affect your retirement planning, we will use a case study of a 35-year old individual who wishes to retire at the age of 60 and can afford to set aside R2 500 each month towards retirement. Also, whereas most analysis focus only on the build-up phase (before retirement), we will also take into account the actual retirement phase.

The table summarises the differences between investing in a retirement annuity versus investing in a balanced unit trust as an individual:

To illustrate the impact of the tax changes on the returns of these two savings options, we?ll assume the targeted return for both options is inflation plus 5% after investment management fees of 1% per year, and that inflation is 6%.The tax changes have different implications for the returns on different savings mechanisms

The two tax changes mean the following in our practical example:

1. For the individual investor (option 2), dividends will be taxed at 15%, while in a RA (option 1) there is no tax on dividends.

2. For the individual investor (option 2), any interest above the exemption level will be taxed as income ? we assume an average rate of 35% ? while in an RA there is no tax on interest.

This difference in tax means that the effective return for the RA (option 1) is 11% per year, while for option 2, it drops to 10,5% per year.

A seemingly small impact on returns can make a significant difference in the long run

Even though 0,5% might not seem like a big difference, the compounding of this differential over many years will have a big impact on how much savings you, and your dependants, have at and during retirement.

Focusing on the first two phases of the retirement cycle, the figures in the tables and the chart show exactly to what extent the different tax treatments of options 1 and 2 impact returns over the long term.

In the third phase where the surviving spouse continues to draw the same income based on the same assumptions for another ten years, the difference between the final portfolio values of the two options becomes even more marked.

Investors should decide what their priorities are when it comes to retirement savings and make an informed decision. Investors have different circumstances and views, and some may regard having more control over their money, as in the case of investing in a balanced unit trust, as essential. The final decision will always remain a personal one, but the numbers certainly do tell a story that is worth considering.

BlueStacks teams with AMD to optimize its Android App Player for AMD chips video

AMD has a disproportionately large $6.4 million investment in BlueStacks, and now we're seeing one clear reason why. The two companies have teamed up to create a special version of the BlueStacks App Player that's tuned for AMD's Fusion-based processors and Radeon graphics cards, running Android apps with the full help of the chip desgner's hardware in Windows 7 and 8 PCs. Accordingly, over 500,000 Android apps are invading AMD's new AppZone portal without any needed tweaks of their own, giving the service a much larger catalog than if it had gone with Windows alone. Both companies have a clear incentive to this melding of desktop and mobile: BlueStacks suddenly gets exposure to as many as 100 million AMD-running users, while AMD can tout a giant app catalog that may be preloaded on future PCs using its components. We don't know if the world needs yet another avenue for playing Angry Birds, especially when many AMD-based PCs won't have touchscreens, but the BlueStacks partnership could be a strong lure for new PC buyers who'd like an instant software library.

Rabies | Princeton Veterinary Hospital

When most people think of rabies, they think of Old Yeller or Cujo. While these are striking examples of what this disease can do, rabies is more common than most people think. Rabies can infect any mammal, including dogs, horses, and people. Rabies is common in wild animals, especially wild dogs, foxes, raccoons, skunks, and bats, but can be seen in any mammal. In the United States, most rabies exposures are from bats.

old yeller

Friday, September 28 is World Rabies Day. Are your pets vaccinated?

What is rabies?

Rabies is a virus that can infect any mammal. The rabies virus is transmitted through the saliva of an infected animal. If an animal infected with rabies bites or scratches another animal (or a person), the rabies virus in the saliva gets into the body through a break in the skin. The virus travels up the nerves and infects the brain. Once in the brain, it starts a chain reaction that results in the ability to infect other animals, clinical signs of the disease, and eventually death.

What are the signs of rabies?

The first change you see in animals is usually a change in behavior. Animals may become either more aggressive (more likely to bite) or may appear to become more friendly (these animals will typically bite when you get close). A change in vocal sounds can also be an indication of rabies infection. Animals may stop eating and drinking or start chewing at the site of the original bite. Many of these signs can be caused by other illnesses as well, so if you notice changes in behavior or appetite, it is important to get your pet to a veterinarian right away.

How is rabies diagnosed?

Unfortunately, the only way to definitively diagnose rabies is by looking at sections of the brain under a microscope. Obviously, this cannot be done while the animal is still alive.

Rabies is a very quickly progressing disease. If an animal is suspected of having rabies, it must be kept under strict quarantine and observation for 10 days. If the animal shows progressive signs that are consistent with rabies, it must be euthanized and tested to confirm the diagnosis so appropriate precautions may be taken for any other animals or people that may have been exposed. If, after 10 days, the animal is not showing signs of rabies, it is released from quarantine.

How is rabies treated?

If a person is bit or scratched by an animal that is suspected to have rabies, there are a few treatment options available. Call your doctor immediately, and then thoroughly wash the wound with soap and water for 15 minutes. Your doctor can administer antibodies directly into the wound, and then you should receive a post-exposure rabies vaccination.

Once clinical signs of rabies are noticed, in people or animals, rabies is not treatable. It rapidly (over 10 days in animals or 14 days in people) leads to worsening behavior and neurologic (brain) changes, resulting in paralysis and death. Prevention is the best treatment for rabies.

How can we prevent rabies?

The best prevention for rabies in your pets is to get them vaccinated against rabies. In Indiana, dogs, cats, and ferrets must all be vaccinated for rabies when they are young, and then get a booster every 1-3 years. In other states where rabies is more common, domestic animals like horses, cattle, and sheep are also vaccinated against rabies. If your pet is bitten by an animal with an unknown vaccination history, call your veterinarian immediately. Wash the wound thoroughly with soap and water. Your pet should also have a booster vaccine. Your pet may need to go into quarantine for 10 days.

People who are at risk for rabies exposure (like veterinarians, veterinary staff, or animal shelter employees) can also be vaccinated against rabies.

Check out the World Rabies Day website or the American Veterinary Medical Association for more information on this deadly, but easily preventable disease.

Mustard Tree Instruments Announces Hazardous ... - NCTechNews

(Research Triangle Park, N.C.) Analytical instrumentation innovator Mustard Tree Instruments is proud to announce that its Verifier (TM) Process System 1000 (VPS-1000) in-process material verification tool has achieved Class 1, Division 1, Group B, C, and D certification. The new certification expands the uses of the VPS-1000 for fast, reliable, non-contact, non-destructive chemical identification and quantitative analysis in multiple pharmaceutical manufacturing, petrochemical, and chemical processing environments. ?We?ve seen growing interest in the VPS-1000 for quality control of raw materials, mixtures, reactants, and finished products in facilities where dust or chemical vapors are present,? Mustard Tree Founder Todd Blonshine said, adding, ?This important certification confirms the instrument can be safely hooked up directly to production lines taking the analyzer to the sample to get real time chemical information.?

The VPS-1000 evaluates and identifies chemical properties of liquids, powders, solids, gels, suspensions and emulsion materials. Using a non-destructive Raman laser to penetrate through a flow cell or sight glass, with no sample contact, the VPS-1000 eliminates the need for human exposure to the process materials. About the size of a laptop computer and weighing about 12 pounds, the VPS-1000 uses advanced analytical software supporting real time, in-process quality control decisions in terms useful for line operators. Observations, analyses, and decisions are retained per industry standards for quality and regulatory compliance.

?The ability to operate in hazardous environments is part of the design construct of the VPS-1000 from its inception,? said Peter Cregger, Mustard Tree Chief Operating Officer.

According to Cregger, the certification process began in 2011, with design certification submitted in February 2012. In March a safety analysis was performed by Cary-based CertifiGroup, an ISO 17025-accredited regulatory compliance and product safety testing firm. Hazardous location certification was granted in August 2012. CertifiGroup is one of the most respected testing laboratories in the country, working with high-profile customers like GlaxoSmithKline, Hart Scientific, Johnson & Johnson, Boston Scientific, Cree and Bayer.

Mustard Tree is working with ACW Technology, Inc. in Durham to manufacture the VPS-1000. A leading electronics manufacturing services provider, ACW serves commercial, industrial, aerospace, defense, security, and other markets in manufacturing and testing technically advanced products and systems.

?Mustard Tree has strong ties to North Carolina and being able to partner with ACW to manufacture our units here in the U.S. was a key factor in selecting them,? Cregger said.

Having the VPS-1000 manufactured by a trusted vendor just down the road from Mustard Tree?s offices will help with logistics in delivering the important verification tool to customers quickly once an order is placed, enhancing its already impressive installation timeline.

?The VPS-1000 can be set-up and validated in weeks, not months, conveniently mounting on a wide variety of process connections,? Cregger explained, adding, the instrument is easy to use and configure and can be installed and uninstalled easily and repeatedly for use on batch tanks.

The VPS-1000 allows users to make instant quality control decisions on the go, adjusting production when inconsistencies are found and avoiding costly recalls of finished product. The responsiveness of the VTT 1000 helps reduce manufacturing lead time so manufacturers can be more responsive to customer demand and generate more revenue in a shorter amount of time, realizing a higher return on investment in personnel, testing, plant utilization and warehouse capacity.

Bennett calls for school district accountability, says little about pre-K ...

What would a second term in office for Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Bennett look like? Bennett didn?t give a lot of clues during his 2012 State of Education address on Tuesday.

Bennett suggested expanding Indiana?s accountability system to include school districts, not just schools. And he said the state needs to better align its K-12 education with the expectations of colleges and employers.

Other than that, there didn?t seem to be a lot of new ideas in the speech, which included what some would consider fulsome praise for outgoing Gov. Mitch Daniels and claims that improved high-school graduation rates and tests scores have resulted from ?Hoosier values? and the reforms adopted under Bennett?s watch. It seemed more like a victory lap than a look ahead to the next four years.

Bennett gave only a lukewarm endorsement to expanding state-support preschool, a cause that the Indianapolis Star and others have begun championing. ?Looking ahead, we should examine ways to give our students even more high quality early learning experiences,? he said. ?How do we make sure those children who will benefit most from early opportunities, like preschool, have access to them??

As the Star?s Matthew Tully wrote recently about Indiana?s gubernatorial candidates, that?s an ?underwhelming? approach to the critical issue of early-childhood education.

Bennett praised a South Bend public arts academy for raising its test scores, Fort Wayne Community Schools for making progress in career and technical education, and a Greenwood mother for coming around to supporting Indiana?s IREAD-3 exam as a screening mechanism for deciding if students are promoted to fourth grade.

He also highlighted Eastern Howard Schools for offering a high-tech curriculum that has attracted transfer students from other districts. (Eastern Howard has been criticized, however, for screening transfer students and accepting only those with good academic and disciplinary records).

Noticeably absent from the speech in this election year: any explicit reference to the Common Cores Standards, which Bennett has supported in the past but which are anathema for many conservatives.

Also missing were any of the customary kind words for President Barack Obama and his secretary of education, Arne Duncan. Bennett has made a point, previously, of noting that some of his ideas ? more charter schools, test-based accountability for teachers ? are bipartisan. Not so this week.

In fact the themes in Bennett?s speech track fairly closely to the education platform of Republican Mike Pence, who is widely expected to be Indiana?s next governor. Pence may well have a bigger impact on Indiana?s education policy during the next four years than anything Bennett says or does.

Bennett?s speech can be viewed online, and it will be shown later this week on Indiana public television stations (check local listings). The text of the speech and audio and text of Democratic superintendent candidate Glenda Ritz?s response are on the NPR State Impact Indiana website.

Odds and Ends: 20 year forecasts; Roll 'em down; Canada v America

Home
> Airbus, Boeing, Bombardier > Odds and Ends: 20 year forecasts; Roll ?em down; Canada v America &?Romney

20 Year Forecasts: The Blog by Javier (who works for Airbus Military) has this analysis of 20 year forecasts. It?s pretty interesting. He also references an earlier post but didn?t link it; here it is. Here is another link to another comparison posting. This link, a bit older, specifically discusses the VLA category.

These are a good set of analyses.

Roll down the windows: Mitt Romney wonders why the windows don?t open on airplanes. And he wants to ?own? Air Force One?

America First? Not so much. Ann Romney flies in a Canadian Bombardier Challenger 600 instead of an American Gulfstream. And we thought Romney was all about American jobs. The right-wing wacko Rush Limbaugh types got on Obama for the Secret Service buying a Canadian-built bus (wasn?t even Obama?s doing). Where are the America-Firsters for not flying an American aircraft?

The Importance of Team Building for Achieving Long Term Business ...

Team building is very crucial for every organization to achieve success. It develops the sense of togetherness and mutual understanding. Team work demands co-operation along with competition.

Importance of team building for business corporations

Everyone is born with their own set of strengths and weakness. When the talk is about work, it requires utilization of all the strengths available at one place. When we walk alone, we achieve something, but when we join our hands and work together we achieve everything. It is rightly said that mathematically 1 + 1 is equal to 2, but when we work as a team to achieve a well defined goal, 1 + 1 becomes 11.

?

We must all realize the value of teamwork and instead of pointing fingers at each other, we should hold hands to help them and one?s own self, in order to overcome our weakness and contribute towards the success of a goal.

?

However, organizing a business team is not an easy game. It requires planning and appropriate organizations to structure right people for the right work.

?

Key points that a team organizer should always follow while building a business team

While togetherness can help you climb mountains, continuous disagreements and fights will not help either. Follow these tips to put together a team with an aim to achieve your dream goal:

  • Help to develop a bond of togetherness between the people of a team. Respect everyone and allow the free communication of their ideas.
  • Break down the work barriers and let the team work together instead of working as separate entities.
  • Every now and then hold meetings or visit their workplace to build up their morale.
  • Make the people of your team realize their strengths and assign work accordingly. This will help them develop trust with each other and will avoid frequent ego clashes.
  • Encourage inter team collaboration and let negative competition stay away from your team.
  • Organize a lunch or a small tea time break to allow frequent talks between the team members. This will build togetherness between them.
  • Allow teams to fight as one by offering team challenges. This will make the team members realize not only their strengths, but also the strength of their co-member.
  • Cross team working can provide a competitive option.
  • Appoint leaders for every team, which can guide the members to the final goal. A leader should be authoritative and at the time should be polite enough to let everyone speak their own mind and heart.
  • A little fun in the working hours can regenerate the lost energy to start afresh. This can give them the time to build a friendly and being together attitude.
  • Give the team members a clear focus on their goal. Give instructions about what they have achieved and what they are aiming for.
  • Reward the team members for their extraordinary work. This will act as a motivating force for them.
  • Allow open discussions over the problems faced continuously.
  • Encourage the team, give them a strategically planned direction and make them understand their roles.

?

Team building programs

Some of the following team building programs can help you bind the people of together and work as ?We? instead of ?Me?:

  • Organize quiz events and get to know about their likes and dislikes.
  • Encourage your team members to participate in skits and plays organized to promote a healthy environment.
  • Organize crossword puzzle contests. Divide the team into groups and announce prizes for the winning group.
  • Organize a casual day when the team members can dress up casually and appreciate each other?s fashion sense.

?

Such team building programs will make it easy for your employees realize the significance of working as a team and will help them to achieve the desired goals.

Shocker: Nintendo Wii U said to be region-locked

Shocker Nintendo Wii U will be regionlocked

The forthcoming Wii U console from Nintendo will be region-locked, just like the original Wii and the 3DS, Nintendo UK told Eurogamer. That means you won't be able to play obscure (or early) Japanese imports on it, and customs officials won't get anything to break up the monotony of seized cigars and bushmeat.
