A rogue Arsenal fan has tricked hundreds of his fellow Gooners into believing Theo Walcott had finally signed a new contract at the club ? by posting a link to the news of the forward?s last renewal in 2009.

Walcott?s future has been the subject of plenty of column inches in the last few months, with the 23-year-old?s current deal due to expire at the end of the season.

It is understood that Walcott is set to pen a new contract soon, after holding more talks with the club this week, but the wait to get pen-to-paper has left many Arsenal fans anxious.

So when a supporter posted the news that Walcott had finally signed up, hundreds of fans rushed to the Twitter account to pass on the information.

The retweets and favourites soon piled up, as the fan provided a link to the Arsenal website that appeared to prove the news was legit.

However, only after closer inspection a short time later was it revealed that the website article was from 2009 ? when Walcott last signed a new contract at the club.

The old news soon left plenty fuming, with some of the comments too blue too publish.

And to think, April fool?s day is a whole three months away?
